For more than a decade, I have had the pleasure of working as a classroom teacher, dyslexia tutor, and reading specialist in Fairfax, Virginia. Over the years, my students have taught me that no two children are alike. Each person is a unique and special individual with a different way of learning. My practice was founded on a deep respect for cognitive diversity. I believe in the science of reading and that children with dyslexia will thrive if they receive intensive, sequential, multi-sensory, and evidence-based instruction. My mission is to create a unique learning plan for each student based on a careful study of that child's abilities, interests, temperament and goals.
I hope you find this site helpful in your journey toward successful literacy development, and I invite you to contact me to discuss your child's specific needs. I am looking forward to helping your child become a stronger, more confident reader!
*NEW* Small Group ZOOM Literacy Classes- October 2020
Are you looking for targeted, engaging, evidence-based small group literacy instruction to support your child at home during school closures and distance learning? Lara is currently registering elementary students for grade level literacy cohort groups. Cohorts will consist of 3 to 4 students with similar learning styles and developmental needs, and will meet twice a week over a ten week period. Lara will provide targeted, explicit Orton Gillingham based instruction to each group in the areas of reading, spelling, and writing. If you are interested in joining an elementary literacy cohort this fall, please follow this link to the group offerings page to learn more.
