Lara is a patient, nurturing, experienced classroom teacher and dyslexia practitioner. She has several years of experience teaching kindergarten, third, and fifth grades, and providing private tutoring to struggling readers.
Lara has had the pleasure of helping many kinds of learners over the years, including general education, gifted, ESOL, special education, and students with dyslexia. She is well prepared to teach range of literacy needs of elementary aged students including emergent and transitional reading skills, comprehension, decoding, phonics, word study, writing, and test preparation skills.
Areas of Expertise
Lara received her Master's of Education Reading Specialist degree in 2005 from California University of Pennsylvania. As a result of her training, she learned valuable techniques for teaching reading to children and adults with dyslexia and other learning differences. In 2014, Lara was honored with National Board Certification in Reading-Literacy and Language Arts in early and middle childhood (ages 3-12). This is the most respected professional certification available in education. Lara studied with the Dyslexia Training Institute and completed a year long practicum in 2019 to become certified as Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner.
