Please complete the enrollment form. Lara will then contact you to set up a free 20-minute consultation- over telephone or Zoom- so that she can learn more about your child and answer any questions you may have. If it is determined that your child is good candidate for cohort classes, Lara will then set up a free assessment session to better understand their specific strengths and needs. Assessment sessions will be done over Zoom and should take 30-45 minutes to complete.
Red Learning Groups (Emergent Readers)
This group is most appropriate for first graders who are pre-readers and have learning gaps from kindergarten. This reading group will focus on developing phonological awareness and strengthening relationships between letters & sounds. Children will work on segmenting and blending sounds, handwriting of letters, sight word instruction, and emergent literacy skills.
Orange & Yellow Learning Groups (Early Readers)
This group is most appropriate for first graders (orange) or second graders (yellow) who are just beginning to read. These children may recognize 20 or more sight words, can already touch and read simple books with repeating patterns, and may attempt to "sound out" simple words. The orange and yellow groups will work on decoding and spelling short vowel pattern words with blends, will write simple sentences from dictation, and will work on fluency and expression when reading.
Orange- Monday 10:15 AM, Friday 3:30 PM, & Saturday 10:15 AM
Yellow- Monday 11:30 AM, Friday 4:30, & Saturday 11:30 AM
Green & Blue Learning Groups ( Early/Fluent Readers)
This group is most appropriate on-grade-level 2nd graders (Green) or below benchmark 3rd graders (Blue) who need support. These readers can read most single syllable words, but need strategies for attacking multi-syllable words. This group will study syllable patterns and syllable division rules to improve spelling and reading fluency.
